We have tried more complicated scarf tying but find these basic methods to be the quickest and easiest.
Step 1:
Fold your scarf in half so that it forms a triangle.
Step 2:
Drape the folded scarf over your head so that the fold is at (or slightly above) your hairline. The opposite corner forms a “tail” at the back of your head and the two longer corners hang at the sides of your head.
Step 3:
Take the right and left corners hanging over your shoulders and bring them around the opposite sides of your head. Cover the tops of your ears as you bring the two ends to the back of your neck. Pull the right and left corners tight so that the scarf won't slip or move on your head.
Step 4:
Tie the corners in a single knot behind your head at the back of the neck where it meets your hairline.
- For the traditional look, let the scarf “tail” hang over the knot so the knot remains hidden.
- For a sportier look, tie the knot over the scarf “tail”.
- For a dressier look, after tying the knot bring the two ends back around your head; alternatively tuck them over and under, over and under... until there is nothing left to tuck in anymore. This will create a 'braided' look.
Tips:
Be careful when pulling your scarf close to your earlobes. You may inadvertently snag it on your earrings.
We do not recommend silk as headwear. The may be beautiful but can be hot and tend to slip. Cotton or viscose scarves hold the head the best.
At first it might seem time consuming but with a little practice scarf tying can be done quickly.
Hair accessories can be added to decorate your scarf. Consider using headbands, clip-ons, ribbons, bows, flowers, jewelry (good use for a single earring), etc. Use your imagination.
